Review of Hotel Arpoador
This trendy hotel is popular with travelers that appreciate a good aesthetic at reasonable prices. It is located in between two famous beaches (Ipanema and Copacabana) and steps away from the Arpoador Rock where you can catch the best sunset view in town.

Lobby & Room
The entrance to the hotel is on a quiet, tree-lined street and easily spotted by a rack of complementary bicycles. The open-air design of the ground floor connects the check-in area to the hotel’s restaurant and the terrace beyond. The space is beautifully designed and makes you feel welcomed.
The Double Room was rather on the smaller side (172 sq. ft) but comfortable for a solo traveler. I appreciated the resort style robes and toiletries from Granado.
Complementary Bicycles
I had a few hours to kill before check-in so I decided to take one of the bicycles for a spin. The promenade along Ipanema Beach has a dedicated bicycle lane but I decided to head towards the lake in the Lagoa neighborhood. The walking/running/biking trail surrounding the lake seemed to be the hub of health conscious Cariocas.
Breakfast at the Arp Bar
Breakfast from the Arp bar was included in my rate and it was outstanding! I recommend the standard breakfast which comes with slices of assorted artisanal bread, jam, honey, cold cuts, three types of cheese, egg prepared to your liking, yogurt, granola, fruit bowl, pastry, coffee and juice. So much food!
Tip: come down for breakfast early to snag one of the tables on the terrace overlooking the beach. Arp Bar seemed to be a popular option for breakfast for locals and tourists alike.
Rooftop
The rooftop had a small “sitting pool” and a counter serving drinks and snacks with a stunning view of the Ipanema Beach. I found the space to be adequate for a quick drink while sitting at one of the chairs provided but not for all-day lounging.
Security
The hotel manages to create a secluded feel even though it’s located on the beach and sandwiched between the two popular neighborhoods of Ipanema and Copacabana. At night the entrance door is locked with admittance only to hotel guests and the front desk is manned by a security guard.
In Rio it pays to be aware of your surroundings at all times and “blend-in.” This means not wearing designer clothes, keeping jewelry to a minimum, not displaying electronics etc while out in public. The well to do Cariocas (residents of Rio) go to considerable lengths to ensure they are not displaying wealth and visitors should take note of this habit.
